# Key Rotation

The VIDA authentication credential service does not support direct key pair rotation for a credential ID. However, if there is a need to change the keys, the partner backend server can request a new credential ID and associate it with the user. To deactivate the old credential ID, the backend server can use the [unregister-device](/identity-stack/authentication/authentication-factors/cryptographic-token-pki/integration-methods/api/unregister-wipe-device.md) API. This process allows for the update of keys associated with a user while ensuring the security of the authentication credentials
